About Me

Just a little personal page about myself, and the story behind Hobkirk Auto Spa

A little summary of who I am, and how I got into car detailiing.

Early Beginnings

I started cleaning cars at the age of 8 years old.   My dear old dad (a wonderful soul) used to tell me, “Son, if you wash and clean my  car, I will let you keep any coins or money you find.”

So I went straight to work.   It was a challenge because it was a work vehicle, I had to take all of his equipment out, and then go at it, and it was usually a total mess, the best kind to work on.

He used to say, “start from the top lad and work your way down”, “put some muscle into it”, “keep your cloths clean” …

I loved doing it, (still do), very satisfying to see the end result.  I have good memories of these times, and it reminds me that I have always been a worker.

Here is the icing on the cake, upon reflection, as an adult, I had the revelation that he used to plant coins, and a 5 dollar bill in the car, bless him, wonderful man, we all miss him terribly.

My first car …

After cutting grass, babysitting, lifeguarding, I finally had enough money to get my own wheels, $900, but my dad came with me and got them down to $800.   This car would get me through university and around Ottawa on my part time job as a merchandiser, this is in the Beaver Lumber days.   A Hyundai Pony, to me it was beautiful.  I used to take great care of it, and albeit free time was precious, she always looked good.  Unfortunately not the best in this, my only photo of her.  :-)

Family/Working Years

After university, I starting working in the IT business for a great career.  My partner and I found each other, and adopted a little chap from the Children’s Aid.

He then was offered the same agreement, if he helped me with the cars, he could keep the change, which he did do, on occasion.  :-)   I took very good care of our cars (with his help), and enjoyed that new-car feeling after each session.

Very good years.

Here we are, the present

Yes, that’s me, and below is my site manager who comes with me sometimes, and overseas operations.

So, after retiring from the IT industry early, I wanted to work for myself, and do something I love.   So, at 52 years old, Hobkirk Auto Spa was born.

I’ve got the right tools, the right products, the right methods, the right order of operations.   I am a PMP Certified Project Manager, highly organized, and also very dedicated to this business.

From Air blasting, to drill brushed, to pet hair removal, to fabric shampooing, to steam cleaning, to salt removal, to efficient vacuum extraction … and then we go outside to wheels first, importance of pre-wash, incorporating the two-bucket contact wash method, …  you get the idea, I’m obsessed.

So that’s a little bit about myself, I look forward to meeting you!
